FALL 2017 BREAK from Gospel Project

As a church we have been journeying through the Bible together over the past year using the Gospel Project.  So far we've covered the major biblical themes from Genesis through Psalms.  For the Fall of 2017 we are taking a short break from the Gospel Project as we kick-off the start of 2 worship services with a message series on the book of James.  The kids in our SONshine Park and ChildCare Ministries will be focused on different themes during this series.  See below for details.

Authentic Under Pressure Message Series:

Real Faith & Real Life in the Book of James

This fall we will be exploring the New Testament book of James as Pastor Don Jackson teaches the "Authentic Under Pressure" series. James emphasizes our need to live authentically even while under the pressures of this life. This series will help you connect Biblical principles to real-life situations, including your actions during trials, your treatment of those less fortunate, and the way you speak and relate to others.

SONshine Park Children's Ministry

Grades K-4 at 9am & 11am; 5th-6th Grades at 11am only

During the months of October and November, our Oakwood Kids in Kindergarten thru 4th grade, as well as 5th-6th grades, will be learning many of the parables of Jesus.  These will include some of the more familiar ones such as the Good Samaritan and Prodigal Son, and some lesser known ones, such as the Tower Builder and the Persistent Widow. This “Travel Guide to the Parable of Jesus” will include times of prayer, group activities, engaging biblical teaching and other activities to help kids grow and interact with the truth of God's Word.

ChildCare Ministry

Infants through Preschool available at both 9am & 11am services

During the fall, Oakwood Kids in our Preschool/Toddler Room will be learning Bible lessons from both the Old and New Testaments. These lessons will show your child that our God is the true giver of grace, courage and protection. We will be learning favorite Bible stories of David, Elijah, Naaman, Daniel, Esther, and Jonah; and New Testament stories of Jesus –His first miracle, healing the sick, and calming the stormy sea.

introducing The Gospel Project

We are beginning a new initiative at Oakwood this fall called the Gospel Project.  Pastor Don will be preaching messages on Sunday mornings that will line up with what our children, teens, and small groups are learning throughout the week. We believe there will be great power in focusing all of us on one big idea and a key passage of scripture each week and we are thrilled to see the church family study through the whole Bible over the next few years. This approach will provide many benefits and opportunities for our families, as they can read and interact with each other over the same Scriptures and biblical topics at home during the week!

The Gospel Project is a chronological Bible study for Adults, Students, and Kids that examines how all of Scripture ultimately points to Jesus Christ. As we journey together from Genesis to Revelation, we will discover how God’s plan of redemption unfolds throughout Scripture and His mission continues today.  Here are some key benefits of the Gospel Project:

  • Chronological Study Plan that shows how the Bible is not just a collection of stories, but one unified story of God’s plan for redemption.
  • Church-wide Discipleship Experience allows individuals and small groups as well as our children's ministries and student ministry to study along with the pastor's weekend messages.
  • Family-friendly Approach equips parents to lead spiritual conversations in the home and build their children's faith.
  • Essential Doctrines that help participants grasp the theological truths and central themes of the Christian faith.
  • Missional Application that examines how the gospel encourages and empowers us to be mission driven.

The Gospel Project will highlight 99 key doctrines of the Christian faith from scripture, teaching them in a way that is understandable and engaging for participants.  Click here to download an overview of the 99 Essential Doctrines.
