2019 Oakwood annual meeting

Join us on Sunday, June 2nd at 9:30am before our morning worship service for Oakwood's 2019 Annual Meeting, where we will affirm new leadership candidates, the 2019-2020 Annual Operating Budget (for July 2019 through June 2020), as well as a couple of Bylaw changes.  We encourage you to arrive between 9:00 and 9:15am for some coffee, donuts and fellowship.  We will start the meeting promptly at 9:30am.  All of the information about the leadership candidates, budget and Bylaw changes can be found below for you to review before the meeting.  It has also been available in the church lobby and the proposed Bylaw changes were mailed out to church members one month before the scheduled meeting.  If you have any questions, please contact one of the Elders or Pastors to discuss these before the meeting.  All Oakwood members will have the opportunity to vote to affirm these items, but you must be present at the meeting (absentee ballots are not available).  Please make it a priority to be present and actively involved in the leadership of your church family.

Leader candidate profiles

Oakwood is an Elder-led church, with Elders serving terms of 3 years (there is a proposed change to the Bylaws this year that would allow an Elder to renew for a 2nd 3-year term before having to take a mandatory 1-year break - see below for details).  Oakwood also has Deacons and a Treasurer serving 3-year terms in leadership roles for our church family.  This year Oakwood will be bringing on two new Elders, four new Deacons, as well as a new Treasurer (serving in a temporary capacity until we find another qualified person to serve as Treasurer).  You can get to know this year's candidates by reading their profiles posted below (also available in the church lobby).  Click the links below to view and/or print a PDF of the profiles:

Proposed 2019-2020 Budget

Oakwood's finance team an Elders are proposing a budget for the 2019-2020 fiscal year (July-June) that includes just a 2% increase from our current operating budget.  It appears that God may have some other opportunities for special projects that we might be able to contribute towards in the coming year as a church family.  Make sure to join us at the annual meeting to hear more.  Click the link below to view/print a PDF of the budget:

Proposed Bylaw Changes

Oakwood's Elders have reviewed Oakwood's current Bylaws (click this link to download a copy) and are proposing just a couple of simple changes this year.  The first proposed changed would allow Oakwood's Elders the option of serving a 2nd consecutive 3-year term before taking a mandatory 1-year break.  This would allow for better continuity of leadership and relationships with the Elders for our church family, while still making sure there are built-in opportunities for breaks and bringing in new leaders.  The second proposed change is to add the role of "Assistant Pastor," to officially identify roles like Oakwood's new Youth Pastor, as well as other pastoral roles we might hire for in the future.  Please read through the explanation from Pastor Don and the proposed changes below:
