After a season of conversation, evaluation, discernment and prayer, the Elders of Oakwood Community Church have, with great disappointment, unanimously decided to end our Wednesday night AWANA program.
It became clear that we are unable to continue this program with ministry excellence, which is one of our main values. Nearly half of the volunteers are not able to return, including a majority of the essential leaders in key areas. Volunteers had to step away for a variety of reasons including health, family decisions or inability to continue with the weekly energy required.
We have worked diligently to keep this ministry to our children going over the past few years. However, participation has declined in both children and leaders. It is always sad to say goodbye to a program that people love but we need to make wise choices with the resources we have been given. We believe it is time to look for the next chapter God has for us in developing young disciples of Jesus.
We are so grateful for the service the AWANA Volunteer Team has provided over several years and to all those who have participated. God has certainly used this weekly ministry to reach boys and girls with the Gospel of Christ and to train them to serve Him.
We are praying God will help us build on this legacy and continue to be faithful in making disciples of Jesus.
God Bless ,
